Short courses on Negotiation and mediation for water conflict management

The course offers a recap of basic concepts in, and introduces advanced processes related to, conflict resolution and cooperation building. It provides in-depth skills training. Cases of transboundary water conflicts are discussed with invited speakers in the field of water governance and conflict resolution.

Upon conclusion of this short course, the participants will: have a good understanding about the potential for conflict and for cooperation when sharing water resources;be able to design and facilitate inclusive negotiation, mediation, consensus building, public participation and other decision-making processes between various water users, water managers, politicians and other decision makers.

Target group is designed for current and future water managers, decision-makers and others involved in Integrated Water Resources Management. Participants need to have a bachelor degree in a relevant subject (i.e. economics, social sciences, law, engineering, biology) and preferably several years of relevant working experience. Basic knowledge of negotiation techniques is an asset.
