Swedish Water House advocates water at the climate negotiations

Water is the primary transmitter of climate change impacts on human populations and the environment. The projected impacts of climate change on water resources stand to have a dramatic effect on vulnerable people and fragile environments all over the world, not least in developing countries. Through the GPPN project, the Swedish Water House engages with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in order to get water on the COP-15 agenda and to ensure closer links between the global water community and the negotiations.

The GPPN operates at the interface between stakeholders in the broader water community, and high level international political processes where commitments are made and resources allocated. As such, it closely follows the proceedings of the UNFCCC to identify ‘entry points’ in the negotiations where it may be possible to secure commitments relating to adaptive water management, and encourage language that is inclusive of the water community, taking into account the impacts that decisions taken in Copenhagen will have on water resources.  Read The Stockholm Statement: Message from World Water Week to the COP-15
